I share a lot of information on my blog and across my social media channels but I don’t really share a lot about me! I thought these Weird and Random Facts would be a fun way for my followers to get to know me a little bit!
1. I Am 5ft 11”
Would you have thought that? The first thing most people say when they meet me for the first time is something like “the height of you”, “you’re much taller in real life”.
I wasn’t always tall, in fact I remember being the smallest in my class in first year. Then during that summer… BOOM!
2. I Am Terrified of Edward Scissorhands
He actually ruined my childhood! I was scared to go to the toilet because I thought he would come up out of the bowl with his scissors! Snoopy the Dog also scares me but I’ve no idea why.
3. I Am Beyonce’s #1 Fan
I’m obsessed with Beyonce. I’ve seen her so many times now and love her more and more each time. She’s the only person in the world that could get me to go to a festival like Oxygen. I cried the whole time I was there actually (SCARLET!) because I couldn’t see her (we were too far back). Darren promised me that the next time she visited Dublin, we would be in the front row at her concert and we were 🙂
4. I Have a Fear of Flying
Considering I travel a lot, this may come as a surprise to some people. I wasn’t always afraid of flying though. Myself and Darren had two really bad flying experiences and we’ve been nervous flyers ever since. It won’t ever stop me from travelling though. Feel the fear and do it anyway, as they say! You can read some tips on how I keep myself calm during flights here.
5. I Am Terrible at Geography
It’s funny because I did higher level geography for my Junior Cert and got a high honour! Although all I remember learning about was rocks, tectonic plates and rivers. What would have been much more beneficial is learning about the world, its layout, the capitals of each country or even ways to develop my sense of direction (see below). I’m getting better though because any time I visit somewhere, I try to learn as much about the place before and during my stay.
6. I Have Absolutely Zero Sense of Direction
None. Last year, I got lost going to work. The same job I had been working in for 4 years!
Darren had the day off and so I had to drive myself. I was an hour late for work and telling my boss I got lost was like the equivalent of saying “my dog ate my homework”. I rang Darren later that day and he asked me to retrace my steps. It turned out that I took the wrong turn coming out of our housing estate, taking me in the complete opposite direction.
7. We Have a Bichon Frise
His name is Button Bates. Darren surprised me with Button one Christmas; I’ll never forget it. He was in a red tartan bed and his little head was peeking over the side and he had the cutest button nose (hence his name!).
8. New York is my Favourite City
We’ve visited about 5 times now and each time I leave, I CAN’T WAIT TO GO BACK. You can read about some of the reasons I love New York here. We’re heading back to New York later this year and I am so excited!
9. I Don’t Drink Anymore
I only ever drank occasionally but whenever I did, it would trigger anxiety for weeks afterwards. That’s not saying I don’t have a few West Coast Coolers or the odd glass of wine, I do (so maybe this is better titled “I Don’t Get Drunk Anymore” :p)!
10. I Can Only Eat Soggy Cereal
I could literally be moments from death and I could not force myself to eat crunchy cereal. What’s even worse is when they are half soggy, half crunchy!
