Bread is definitely my weakness (or carbs in general :p!). Luckily for me, there are some seriously good bakeries in New York. Check out the ones we’ve tried and loved below. Also, if you’re looking for some restaurant recommendations, definitely check out our New York restaurant recommendations here.

Our Favourite Bakeries
Milk Bar
Milk Bar is unbelievable. Without a doubt, the nicest birthday cake I’ve ever had (thanks Carly!) which you would have seen in our YouTube video here. They also do a thing called ‘Crack Pie’, which they’ve since renamed ‘Milk Bar Pie’ and it’s delicious. The Strawberry Shortcake Softserve is a must!
If you haven’t heard of Milk Bar, I recommend you check out Chef’s Table Pastry on Netflix. There’s an episode dedicated to Milk Bar and its founder and CEO, Christina Tosi.
Junior’s Cheesecake
If you don’t know, New York Cheesecake is world famous, and Junior’s Cheesecake is by far the best cheesecake in New York, hands down. Seriously, you can’t leave here having not tried it!
This place doesn’t just do cheesecake, oh no! They do burgers, stacked sandwiches, hot dogs – all the American staples. Carly loved their Disco Fries, which are just chips, cheese and gravy, but sure look, what’s not to love. Here’s the full menu.
Leo’s Bagels
Something else New York is known for is bagels – apparently they’ve a reputation for being the best because of the local water used while making them, but that’s highly debated and I’m not getting involved. All I know is they’re delicious and Leo’s Bagels our number 1. The queues are around the corner every lunchtime, but the wait is well worth it. We’ve had plain bagels with cream cheese, tuna filling and a turkey club. Also, the portions are huge so think about splitting one. See the menu here.
Dominique Ansel Bakery
When you’re in Soho, you can’t walk for 5 minutes without seeing someone with a Dominique Ansel bag and there’s a reason for that… it’s unreal!
Dominique Ansel Bakery opened in New York’s Soho neighborhood in 2011 and since then has invented some world renowned deserts including the Cookie Shot (which is a shot glass made from a chocolate chip cookie with warm vanilla milk inside ;P) and the Cronut®. We’d recommend trying both, and although the queue is always down the block, it’s so worth it.
Breads Bakery
I can’t remember when we first heard about Breads Bakery, but regardless, we’re so glad we did. Usually when we head to a bakery, we never think of savoury pastries, but the Spinach and Feta Bureka is out of this world. It almost tastes like a cross between garlic bread and a croissant.
They have these mini chocolate croissants called Chocolate Rugelach which are delicious, but the true showstopper is their Chocolate Babka. Breads’ Chocolate Babka is a light an airy loaf of challah bread wedged with Nutella! Delish!
Funny Face Bakery
If you’re a fan of cookies, and even if you’re not, I’d recommend swinging by Funny Face Bakery. They’re located in Seaport and specialize in gooey-style cookies. This place is Carly’s favourite!
[Insert Photo]Their hockey puck-sized cookies are baked fresh daily and their flavors include chocolate chip, s’mores, rainbow crumbfetti, oatmeal raisin, and double chocolate.
Levain Bakery
Levain Bakery is world renowned for its cookies (same gooey-style as Funny Face), and for me, it’s hard to say which bakery’s the best out of the two.
They’ve two locations in Manhattan, and one in Brooklyn, so if you don’t get down to Seaport to try Funny Face, Levain is just as good in my opinion.
Magnolia Bakery
Magnolia Bakery is another must when you visit NYC. Made famous by Sex in the City, the original Magnolia Bakery, located in the West Village, is just a few minutes walk away from Carrie Bradshaw’s apartment in the show. So, if you’re a fan, it’s nice to check both of these landmarks off your list while you’re in the area.
The Carrie Cupcake (named after you know who) is very good, but my number one recommendation is the Banana Pudding. It’s the closest thing we’ve had to banoffi pie, and it’s incredible!
So there you have it. Our favourite New York City bakeries. As and when we try (and love) new places, I’ll add them to this list, so feel free to bookmark this post. In the mean time, let us know your favourites below, and tag us on social media if you try any of our favourites.
Enjoy!
