About 6 months before our wedding, like all coffee obsessed people, I was already thinking about the coffee I’d be drinking the morning of! My husband and I have Starbucks together on the way to work pretty much every morning, so I had a brainwave to see if I could get Starbucks delivered to the hotel on our wedding day.
After some extensive research (Google) I discovered that there were no stores within a 15 mile radius. Never one to concede easily, I sent an email to Starbucks HQ and asked if there was anything they could do as I’d love to surprise the groom and the rest of the bridal party. Not long at all after I sent the email, I had a call with the relevant Regional Manager who told me that they’d never done anything like this before but that she’d be only delighted to help out such loyal customers (we are gold members after all!). From there, she suggested that the coffee be delivered in canisters as opposed to cups since it’d be too cold by the time it reached the venue. We were good to go bar one final request. I asked if it would be possible for our titles to be written on the cups (i.e. Bride, Groom, Maid of Honour, etc.) to which she was only happy to oblige.
On the morning of the wedding, at around 8:30am, there was a knock on my door. Stood there in the doorway were two baristas; both dressed in their Starbucks uniforms (I loved that little touch). My brother in law had left the hotel only moments beforehand to go get Starbucks because he wanted a “proper coffee”. It was so funny listening to his partner trying to convince him that Starbucks (“the real Starbucks”) was in the bridal suite.
I was delighted that everyone loved the surprise as much as I had hoped they would, especially the Groom; he was so excited and appreciative. The staff had a surprise for me too; the cups had been customised by an extremely talented artist; a Starbucks employee. When I seen the cups I didn’t want to use them. I really wanted to keep them in my memory box forever. Then I was told that they had customised two sets of cups, one to use on the day and the other to keep as mementos. The thoughtfulness of that gesture just blew me away.
The best part (after the customised cups) was that Starbucks did all of this free of charge! I know, how sweet and kind of them, seriously! We are so grateful to them and in particular Martina and Vicky. It was the perfect start to the most perfect day.
As I said, Starbucks have never done this before and I’m not sure they will again but maybe if you ask really nicely?
